Assessment of Literacy Learning Needs
£200
About
An assessment of literacy learning needs will provide a profile of an individual’s strengths and difficulties in relation to literacy.
It will provide detailed information to help understand why someone might be finding reading, writing and spelling difficult.
While the report cannot be used to diagnose dyslexia, it will give personalised recommendations for support at home and at school.
It will give an indication of dyslexic tendencies and will inform discussion with school SENDCos or specialist teachers.
What does it involve?
An Assessment of Literacy Learning Needs can be carried out with individuals who are 8 years old and above.
It involves assessment of phonological awareness and processing, working memory and literacy attainment. It takes one and a half hours. The data and background information from the individual or their parents, are used to build a literacy profile highlighting strengths and areas of need.
Brief verbal feedback will be given after the assessment, with the opportunity for a longer discussion once the report has been received two weeks after the assessment date.
Why would you want an assessment of literacy learning needs?
An individual is working below the expected standard for their age in reading, writing or spelling and it would be helpful to have strategies to support them.
An individual has been identified as having ‘dyslexic tendencies’ by a teacher or SENDco and it would be useful to explore this in more detail.
